Unfortunately, any discussion of cholesterol’s relationship to stanols and sterols might get a little technical. I’ll try to make it understandable because it is such an important concept to grasp due to the incidence of heart disease and its relationship to high blood-cholesterol levels. First let’s take a look at how cholesterol is produced in the body. Cholesterol is a naturally occurring chemical in our bodies and we use it for energy. Cholesterol is essential to life. Every cell in your body requires cholesterol in its membranes. Cholesterol is also the starting material from which your body makes vitamin D, steroid hormones and bile acids for digestion. Although you can and do obtain cholesterol from foods, your body is capable of making all the cholesterol you need. The liver manufacturers about

800-1500 mg. of cholesterol per day, which contributes much more to total body cholesterol than does your diet. Although only animal foods contain cholesterol, the liver can make cholesterol from carbohydrates, proteins or fat. The problem occurs when our diet adds even more cholesterol to our bodies. One answer is the “statin” drugs that one can get with a prescription. They act in the liver by stopping the production of cholesterol. The problem is cost of the drugs and the side effects of their use. Two side effects in particular reason enough to stop using the drug…liver failure and skeletal muscle damage.

What if we could stop the absorption of cholesterol? There are two chemicals that are very similar to cholesterol.

One group is called “sterols”. Sterols are a group of fat-like substances which occur naturally in the animal and plant kingdom. The most well known animal sterol is cholesterol…yes chole
sterolis a sterol…an animal sterol.

The sterols molecular framework contains a double bond. If this double bond is hydrolyzed (or broken), saturated plant stanols are formed from the unsaturated plant sterols. These two chemicals go hand in hand throughout our bodies. The plant stanols and sterols are sometimes referred to as “phytosterols” with chemical structures similar to cholesterol. Therefore, when these phytosterols travel through our digestive tract they compete with cholesterol, getting in the way and blocking cholesterol from being absorbed into the bloodstream.

The result is that cholesterol we eat is excreted from the body, therefore reducing our total and LDL cholesterol levels in the body. Because Cholesterol Reduction Complex interferes with the absorption of cholesterol from the food we eat, this product should be taken just before meals (up to 30 minutes before meals) to be effective.

Shaklee Cholesterol Reduction Complex which lowers LDL (the bad cholesterol) can safely be taken with Shaklee Cholesterol Regulation Complex which raises HDL (the good cholesterol). The ratio of HDL/LDL looks at the ratio of good cholesterol (HDL) to bad cholesterol (LDL). The ratio is determined by dividing the LDL cholesterol into the HDL cholesterol. For example, if a person has an HDL cholesterol of 50 mg/dL and an LDL cholesterol of 150 mg/dL, the HDL/LDL ratio would be 0.33. The goal is to keep the ratio above 0.3, with the ideal HDL/LDL ratio being above 0.4. Shaklee Cholesterol Reduction Complex provides some really good news for the 1 in 3 American adults who have high cholesterol.

Now there is a safe way to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol naturally! Shaklee Cholesterol Reduction Complex is a proprietary formulation with clinically proven ingredients that help prevent the absorption of cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol. It's made with a powerful blend of these sterols and stanols, which are found naturally in plants, fruits, vegetables and grains. In addition, Cholesterol Reduction Complex is gluten free and has no side effects.
